Seems to me> The difference between art and trash is how you explore it when and how it is presented to you. Some people will never see Pollack’s “Lavender Mist” as anything but a paint mess. I enjoy the risk of projects that take a genre or subject …or format that is considered ‘immature’ or ‘pedestrian in their banality or silliness’ …and fill them with gravitas and meaning. It is simplicity and emotional banality/manipulation with a challenge to bring them meaning & and true discovery worthy of the value of life an audience exchanges for it. To think being an artist one should always stay above the simple, the bad, the trite, the cliche or the ‘unworthy’ seems to me, to be throwing out much of the deepest joy and pain.
